Within a few hours the boat docked and they made their way to his home. Silent the entire ride, the thought of finally killing him troubled her all the way there. She needed as clean of break as possible. If they spent anymore time getting to know each other she knew that she would do something stupid, like telling him her family wanted to kill him.

While she had never betrayed them before, she struggled with thinking it was worth it. But she knew that there was no way that they would let her live for doing such a thing. Ruthlessly, Lucie would order the destruction of Katya by the rest of the loyal family members. There would be no escape with the entire elite team of assassins on her ass. She wouldn’t even be surprised if Canary joined them. Even if she could convince him to run away with her, to live happily ever after, on the lamb for the rest of their lives, she knew that they would find her eventually. There was no escaping Gryphon, especially not Lucie.

Like Katya, Lucie was adopted into the family by the previous head, a man named Dr. Speaks. He had died before Katya was born but she had heard the stories of the great man who could manipulate people into doing all of his dirty bidding. He had never lifted a finger to kill anyone instead he used his children. He was a major proponent of loyalty and if a child ever got out of line they would suffer dire consequences.

Depending on what they did he would wage war on them psychologically by cutting off their affiliation with Gryphon. And if you’re born into Gryphon, then that’s all you have. No other family is out there for you. And if you went too far in undermining G.A.S, he would have you killed.

Knowing that was the lineage from which Lucie had been born, she knew it would be in her best survival interests to be good, to be loyal, to complete her mission. And that was to kill Cole and get his hard drive, despite her aching love for him.

She sat on his couch while he poured them glasses of wine. She gawked at his every move, studying his muscles and veins as they popped and flexed. He spoke but the voice in her head that she was trying to subdue overpowered his voice.

On the brink of tears, she rushed to the bathroom to avoid him seeing her cry. Staring in the mirror she breathed deeply holding the tears in. She rumbled through her purse and pulled out a metal case. The case held a syringe with cyanide inside.

It would be a non-violent way of killing him especially if she did it while he was sleeping. Hating that it came to that, she shook her head and slid the syringe back in the case to use it later in the evening.

Once they drank wine they settled in his bed and he drifted off to sleep.
